Bintan Museum Concept

In 2013, Digital Heritage Center created the concept for a new jungle museum in Bintan, Indonesia. This included design and interpretative content for permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a strategy for cultural heritage programs at the museum.

SHORT-TERM AIMS

– spark interest for the cultural heritage of Bintan and to inspire the creation and collecting of art and craft

– introduce Bintan as a culturally diverse and a historically rich island and to introduce the visitor to the local natural and cultural heritage

– provide engaging, inspiring exhibitions for visitors of a wide audience that relate to their references and provide experiences which are in line with the spirit of the postmodern museum

– introduce new modes of engagement for visitor experience based on the constructivist conception of a successful museum instead of traditional linear viewing

– use familiar, designed interfaces which facilitate experiential activities at exhibitions to augment visitor engagement

– develop the exhibitions in close cooperation with collectors, artists, curators, and other relevant partners

– offer an artist-in-residence program for promising new Asian visual artists, craftsmen and filmmakers who are interested in collaborating with the museum about the artistic expression of culture and heritage in Indonesia and neighbouring regions

– provide a creative place and framework for artists, curators and art collectors that will generate content to temporary and permanent exhibitions at the museum

– provide creative meetings such as seminars, workshops, large and small conferences and customized banquets for cultural, governmental as well as business events (meeting place (gallery/conference) for all stakeholders, collec- tors, tourists/visitors, artists, retail and others)

LONG-TERM AIMS

– revitalize cultural heritage in Bintan through collaborations between culture, industry and tourism

– sustain the interest of the public at the resort and the tourists visiting the island and to have a strong collaboration with Bintan’s inhabitants. The sustainability will be achieved through new content, trained professionals that provide quality services at the museum

– establish museum as the most interesting private museum in Southeast Asia
