Culture KICK

Culture KICK is a network 2011-2014  built as an initiative between the University of Oslo / Intermedia and the Interactive Institute Swedish ICT Stockholm / NODEM (Nordic Digital Excellence in Museums), involving 8 partners from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Island which conduct practice-based and collaborative research with creative industry partners as well as heritage institutions. The project was financially supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Culture KICK focuses primarily on addressing the challenges raised by the need to establish a sustainable framework for R & D-based collaborations with the relevant sectors of cultural heritage and creative industry. For this purpose, the concept and methodology of knowledge transfer are developed and piloted within the Culture KICK network and disseminated in the NODEM community.

Culture KICK knowledge transfer activities built sustainable structures for cooperation, knowledge creation, and the sharing of best practice to inform and motivate different organizations within different disciplines in design and CH sector.

Outcomes:

  • Digital Repository — an online platform for existing R&D projects from cultural heritage institutions and ICT and the creative industry in Nordic countries, moderated and connected to the existing community website of NODEM, nodem.org; it comprises papers, case studies, research projects, videos and photos from NODEM conferences.
  • Newsletter for all stakeholders, for training use of Repository and promotion of Culture KICK activities and outcomes.
  • Networking activities to support digital cultural heritage knowledge sharing and preservation within NODEM 2012, NODEM 2013 and NODEM 2014 conference, where representatives from R&Ds, SMEs and cultural heritage organizations had the opportunity to discuss on applying and managing innovative design research and practical new technology.

Two Know-how books bridging research findings and everyday practices for people working in the cultural heritage sector, available online and in printed form.
