Old Master’s Paintbrushes

The Old Master’s Paintbrushes offer an intuitive way of discovering Old Master Paintings. It is part of the Creative Wonder Cabinet series, which is a group of interpretive and pedagogical exhibits that aims to stimulate curiosity and engagement about museum pieces and environments through interactive discovery.

The Old Master’s Paintbrushes is a digital replica of the world famous Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. It invites visitors to interact with the painting by using a set of interactive paintbrushes. Each paintbrush targets one layer of the painting so that by using different brushes  visitors can reveal secrets in the different layers, e.g. drawings and color layers, in an intuitive and playful way.

The Old Master’s Paintbrushes was launched in May 2008 at the Museum and Heritage Show in London. The first customized unit, based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, was produced for the Science Centre Singapore as a part of the exhibition Da Vinci, the Genius, which opened May 16th 2009.
